Introduction

Bonjour, hello, and welcome to the latest issue of Plan2Plan, the student magazine of the Canadian Institute of Planners, written by you: the agents of change, the planners for tomorrow, the voices of new political reason. There are exciting features in April’s issue of the magazine, including my first interview, some technology news, an article on Vancouver’s incredible “green” Convention Centre, a look at peak oil and Vancouver’s Gateway project, as well as a write up on the Sustainability by Design project, initiated by the School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture at UBC.

This month I had the pleasure to chat with renowned author, podcaster, blogger, and social cynic James Howard Kunstler. The author of The Geography of Nowhere, The Long Emergency, and most recently World Made by Hand, sat down with Plan2Plan for a feature I’m calling “7 Questions with James Howard Kunstler.” Find out what Jim thinks about the planning profession, technology’s role in our future, and what peak oil holds for us. Download Kunstler’s podcast, KunstlerCast, as well as the podcasts produced by the Masters students at Ryerson (details are in the technology section). Check out the school updates and the summary of the CAPS-ACEAU conference.

And finally: make sure you vote in the student election. You can read the candidates’ bios here.
