Welcome to 2005!
I hope that everyone had an enjoyable holiday season and found the time to visit with family and friends. January marks the beginning of the search for internships for many undergraduates and first year Masters students. It is also the time when second year Masters students start the bulk of the writing for their thesis projects. Whether it is a job search or research that occupies your time, I trust the coffee pot, your local pub and fellow students will be there to support you.

Of course, this holiday season was marked by tragedy in south-east Asia. Reports of the devastation and death toll from the tsunami will continue to make headlines well into 2005. As planning students we can appreciate the challenges of rebuilding entire communities and the necessary infrastructure. However, the physical rebuilding is only one challenge. Rebuilding the social infrastructure and community connections will likely be a much greater task. I am pleased to report that CIP made a donation of $1,000 to the Canadian Red Cross in support of disaster relief.
This January also marks the final countdown to the CAPS/ACEAU Conference hosted by the University of Toronto from February 2 to 5. Speakers include Paul Bedford, Dr. Enid Slack, Glen Murray and John Sewell. There is still time to register and all the details can be found later in this issue of Plan2Plan. I look forward to meeting people there and discussing local, national and international planning issues.
A là prochaine!
