Happy Holidays and best wishes for the New Year from Plan2Plan!
I hope that the first semester has been rewarding for all the new students, and that everyone is excited about starting new classes in January.
Since October, students across Canada have been very busy learning theory, designing Google SketchUp models, and even building 3-D models of neighbourhoods! In this issue, you can find out more about these projects.
We also have a great narrative from Heather Fehr about a very rewarding semester-long internship program. Her experience really goes to show that it is worth pursuing your dreams and taking on a challenge, even if it seems daunting at first.
Don’t forget to register for the CAPS-ACEAU conference in Guelph! The conference, titled “Progressive Planning: A Work in Progress?” looks to be incredibly interesting, with topics ranging from active transportation, climate change, and food issues. I’m really excited to see Bogotá’s Gil Peñalosa speak about creating great public spaces, and I hope to meet you all in Guelph in February!
Some other important dates coming up include deadlines for the CIP 2010 Conference Call for Proposals and the Planning Student Trust Fund Fellows’ Travel Scholarship. The 2010 CIP Conference, “Climate Change + Communities: A Call to Action,” will be held in Montreal from October 2–5, 2010. The Call for Proposals is available online and proposals are due on Friday, January 29, 2010. College of Fellows and the Canadian Institute of Planners are offering a $4,000 scholarship to a final-year student enrolled in the final year of a CIP-recognized undergraduate planning program. The application, available here, is due January 22, 2010.
Wishing you all the best for 2010,
Daniella Fergusson
